Nigel Burke

Nigel is a partner in the firm’s London office, providing specialist financial, accounting, audit and taxation advice in the media sector.

Nigel established the business management department at Godfrey Allan in 1995 (later becoming part of RSM Tenon), which focused largely on providing bespoke, tailored accounting and taxation services to media clients with music, film, television or related businesses.

He spent the latter 7 years of his tenure at RSM Tenon as Director and Partner in the Film & Television Unit before facilitating the unit’s migration to Saffery in 2012. Much of Nigel’s work continues to centre on the film and television sectors, where he has considerable experience of the UK film tax credit and the UK TV tax credit.

Nigel has a comprehensive understanding of tax structured film and TV finance and other UK and overseas funding. He lectures regularly on film and TV incentives and the UK’s Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), and he has also spoken at international seminars on these topics. Throughout his career, he has gained expertise in corporate finance activity within the film and television sectors, with focus on due diligence, business plan preparation, financial modelling and the valuation of TV and film rights.


Key experience

  • Contributed to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) consultation groups during the design and implementation of the very successful UK film tax credit and has considerable experience advising clients ranging from the US film Studios to independent UK and European film producers,
  • Contributed to the HMRC consultation process on the new UK High End TV tax credit, which is expected to replicate the success of the film tax credit and he is briefing and advising the US cable/network companies and independent UK TV producers on the practicalities of accessing the incentive.

Interests

Nigel is recently married and lives in Middlesex. When not working, Nigel enjoys spending time outdoors, and he has a particular interest in sailing.
