Expert witness and ancillary relief proceedings
We have extensive experience acting as expert witness in family proceedings, particularly in cases involving clients with substantial financial assets, diverse business interests and those with overseas assets. We provide written reports and give oral evidence in the capacity of ‘single joint’ and ‘independent expert’ to the courts on valuation, tax and forensic accounting matters.
We provide expert business valuations, forensic accounting support and tax advice in ancillary relief proceedings and have an established reputation amongst leading family lawyers and barristers.
Our experience includes:
Acting as single joint experts and independent experts in ancillary relief proceedings at the Principal Registry Family Division, and the High Court Family and Queens Bench Divisions, involving many diverse business interests.
Preparing forensic accounting reports in numerous ancillary relief cases involving private company and business valuation, reporting on assets held overseas, including those held via offshore trusts and companies, and reporting on liquidity and tax issues.
Advising on the tax implications of inter-spousal asset transfers and on the drafting of court orders in order to mitigate potential tax issues arising from the transfer of assets, particularly post separation. In cases involving non-UK domiciled individuals, we can advise on the tax efficient remittance of funds in order to fund a settlement.
Providing support to family lawyers and their clients in the preparation of the client’s form, the drafting of financial questionnaires and in reviewing the adequacy of all financial disclosures etc.
Post-divorce private client tax planning, involving advice on onshore and offshore tax and trust matters.
