Welcome to the September issue of Private Client.
In our first article, we look at Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT). Very different rates of SDLT apply, depending on whether property is residential or non-residential. Things get complicated when a single property combines both residential and non-residential elements. Our article considers a judgement in a recent tax case that looked at the rate of SDLT that should apply to the purchase of ‘mixed property’.
Continuing the property theme, our second article looks at recent changes to the taxation of property, particularly those due to take effect from 2020.
Our third and final article is an overview of the Office of Tax Simplification’s second report into inheritance tax. We give a flavour of the recommendations being made by the report and the potential consequences if these are adopted by the government.
As ever, I hope you find this issue interesting and informative. Please feel free to contact me if you have queries on any of the topics raised here.
