Increase to Ireland’s Section 481 film and TV tax credit incentive

film and TV tax credit

On 29th March 2024, the Irish Department of Finance announced that EU Commission approval had been secured to enable the implementation of two important changes to S.481 film relief introduced in Finance Act 2023, being:

  1. An increase of the eligible expenditure cap per qualifying film to €125m (previously €70m)
  2. An extension of the credit to 31 December 2028 (previously 31 December 2024)

Commencement orders have been signed by the Minister for Finance Michael McGrath giving effect to the legislative changes meaning the increased cap is now available. This news is enormously welcome by the Irish film and TV industry, further enhancing Ireland’s already stellar reputation as an exceptional destination for film production.
