Neil is a private client tax specialist in the International Private Client Team in London, who advises high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, trustees and family offices on UK tax and estate planning, and their UK tax compliance obligations.
Neil has a particular focus on advising international clients based in the UK with multi-jurisdictional personal or business interests on cross-border tax issues, including residence and domicile issues and tax efficient offshore trust and holding company structures.
Neil joined the firm in April 2024, having previously worked for both EY and S&W where his core client base consisted of non-UK domiciled individuals, and also EY Frank Hirth where he acquired significant expertise in the unique UK tax issues impacting US connected clients living in the UK.
Neil is a member of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and he has also completed the Enrolled Agent (EA) qualification in US taxation.
Key experience
- Providing UK tax planning for international clients living in the UK, including former users of the remittance basis of taxation, with a particular expertise in the setup, implementation, and use of offshore structures to optimise UK tax efficiency.
- Providing UK tax planning for clients who are arriving in or leaving the UK, including advising individuals on their UK tax residence status and domicile position, the implementation of appropriate planning prior to their arrival in or departure from the UK, and reviewing their offshore structures.
- Assisting international families with estate planning, wealth preservation and succession planning, including advising on the application of valuable reliefs, the availability of exemptions in relevant double taxation treaties, and the use of UK and offshore structures. Neil has a particular expertise in advising US connected clients, and the application of the complex provisions and reliefs available in the UK/US estate tax treaty.
- Advising UK resident and non-UK resident individuals on the purchase, holding and disposal of UK residential and commercial land and property, including the restructuring and winding up of property-holding structures.
- Assisting clients in bringing their UK tax compliance up to date, including disclosing prior non-compliance to HM Revenue & Customs.
- Advising UK resident and non-UK resident trustees on their UK tax and reporting obligations.
- Working with advisers in overseas jurisdictions to provide comprehensive advice to clients that considers their worldwide tax position.
Interests
Neil lives in London and is married with three young children. In his spare time, he loves spending time with his family, socialising with friends, eating out at the latest restaurant hot spots, and watching a variety of sports, particularly watching and playing golf. Neil also loves to travel, and in particular, to different places where he can explore new cultures.
