This statement is made pursuant to section 54 (1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. This requires organisations to publish a statement each financial year that includes details of the steps taken to ensure modern slavery or human trafficking does not take place in its business or supply chains.

Saffery Trust Registered Fiduciaries (Saffery Trust) is a financial services business providing professional services to a range of clients, including private individuals, businesses and corporates, operating out of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

As professional advisors, much of our work is undertaken by our staff at our own office. Our professional services supply chain is composed, in the main, of other regulated professional service firms and individuals. These are subject to supervision by their own oversight bodies such as the ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA, SRA and FCA and consequently we have assessed the risk of them being involved in slavery and/or human trafficking as low.

As a financial service business, we conduct due diligence checks on all new clients and we regularly review our due diligence processes to ensure that any issues relating to money laundering, financing of terrorism or other criminality including modern slavery or human trafficking are identified.

Our non-professional services supply chain comprises mainly of organisations providing IT and office services (such as premises, security, catering and cleaning). Our entire supplier network has been categorised by service provided, geographic location and annual spend, and we have established a quantum of spend proportionate to the size of our office to identify which of our suppliers we need to review in more detail.

In addition, we are reviewing our staff training to make certain we provide not only an awareness of the Act and our obligations, but a framework for responding to an incident or identification of a potential incident. We also regularly review our related internal policies and where necessary enhance our monitoring, remediation and reporting frameworks.

In conjunction with changes in legislation we are continually looking for ways in which we can enhance our business practices to identify and mitigate the abuse and exploitation of vulnerable workers from crimes associated with the Modern Slavery Act and our statement reflects our Directors’ commitment to its principles.
