Aalia Ahmed

Aalia is a Senior Manager in the VAT Advisory Team advising clients on a variety of issues, specifically in the following sectors: charities/not-for-profit organisations, educational institutions, manufacturers, retailers, international businesses and land/property developers.

Some of the common areas which Aalia advises on are: VAT recovery methods, VAT liability of income streams, VAT liability of property transactions, VAT grouping, international supply chain issues, and the application of the transfer of a going concern provisions.

Aalia is a member of the firm’s Sustainability group and writes content on the impact of ESG on tax.


Key experience

  • Completing VAT reviews to identify areas of risk in relation to the VAT accounting position of a wide range of clients,
  • Advising on the application of VAT zero-rating reliefs in relation to, for example, the supply of construction services,
  • Advising on the application of VAT exemptions in relation to supplies of education, welfare services and medical services,
  • Helping partly exempt clients to develop and implement business/non-business methods, partial exemption methods and capital goods scheme calculations,
  • Advising on cross border VAT accounting, particularly, the reverse charge mechanism and postponed VAT accounting,
  • Advising on the VAT recovery on deal fees incurred in connection with a sale/acquisition,
  • Providing bespoke VAT training sessions.

Interests

Aalia lives in West Yorkshire and outside of work she enjoys writing poetry, walks in the countryside, baking and travelling. Aalia is also passionate about mentoring/coaching and an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion.
