Nick Hart

Nick is a Director in the VAT Advisory Team and advises our full range of clients including corporates, high-net-worth individuals, trusts and partnerships, on all aspects of VAT. Nick also acts for international companies and organisations in relation to their VAT positions within the UK and globally.

Day-to-day Nick advises clients on complex and high-value land and property related transactions as well as assisting clients with maximising VAT opportunities within their supply chains. He advises clients operating in a whole host of sectors including manufacturing, financial services, e-commerce, rural business and recruitment/employment.

Nick regularly presents at events, both internally and externally and is a regular author of VAT content and thought-leadership.

Nick’s VAT career spans 20 years during which time he has been a VAT audit officer at HMRC as well as having 15 years advising businesses on a consulting basis.


Key experience

  • International indirect tax and the VAT position of cross-border supplies of goods and services, advising clients on the VAT implications of their international supply chains,
  • Advising clients on all aspects of land and property transactions and construction services, and helping them to structure their operations to achieve the maximum VAT efficiency,
  • Undertaking risk reviews and internal audits for clients, focusing on control and processes as well as the VAT position being adopted in relation to all income streams and identifying ways of increasing VAT recovery.

Interests

Nick lives with his partner in a small village north of Bristol, and has two children. Nick enjoys hiking and uses the natural world he walks in, to inspire his other main interest of landscape painting.
