Ruth leads the personal tax compliance team in the Bristol office and is also involved in reviewing personal tax returns and advisory work across the region.
Ruth works for a wide range of clients but specialises in providing advice and tax reporting for landed estates, trusts, non-UK domiciled individuals and non-UK resident individuals.
She is a fully qualified member of the CIOT, ATT and STEP and is a member of the firm’s internal technical groups including the Personal Tax Forum and Trust Forum.
Ruth joined Saffery in 2020 having qualified at a top ten firm in Bristol and spent time at a small accountancy practice in Cardiff.
Key experience
- UK tax compliance, including completing annual tax returns, capital gains tax returns, inheritance tax returns and associated calculations,
- Dealing with complex HMRC enquiries and disclosures,
- Advising on the UK Statutory Residence Test for individuals leaving and/or returning to the UK,
- Advising on the remittance basis and mixed fund rules for non-UK domiciled individuals,
- Advising on the tax implications of separation/divorce,
- Assessing the availability of inheritance tax business property relief and agricultural property relief including ‘Balfour’ style review,
- Supporting families with succession planning including advising on the use of trusts and family investment companies,
- Advising individuals and businesses on the tax reliefs available in respect of capital disposals, transfers and reinvestment.
Interests
Ruth lives in South Wales with her husband and Bob the cat. Outside of work, Ruth enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the coast and castles around Wales and pottering in the garden.
