Emily Hektor

Emily is a Senior Manager in the Personal Tax team in London, acting for private clients who require UK tax compliance and advisory services.

She specialises in high-net-worth and international clients, as well as their families and group structures, and is passionate about providing a high level of client service.

Emily joined Saffery in April 2015 and is a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) with over 10 years’ experience in tax.

She is the Wellbeing Ambassador for the London Tax department, promoting health and wellbeing across the department through various events and webinars; a member of the Saffery Innovation Group, with the objective of generating new service ideas, improving existing processes, and exploring existing and emerging technologies to facilitate innovation across the firm; and, a member of the Women’s People Network.


Key experience

  • UK tax planning for private clients either arriving in or leaving the UK, including advising on the Statutory Residence Test, the application of double taxation agreements with other jurisdictions, and the availability of treaty relief for dual residents,
  • Advising private clients on tax matters related to their non-UK domicile status, such as the remittance basis, the calculation of taxable remittances, the foreign loss election, business investment relief, and offshore account structuring,
  • Advising private clients on various UK tax allowances, reliefs and charges, such as the pension allowance and associated annual tax charge, relief for Gift Aid donations, income tax relief on EIS, SEIS and VCT investments, share loss relief, negligible value claims and the High Income Child Benefit Charge,
  • Assisting with tax disclosures to bring clients’ non-compliance up-to-date with HM Revenue & Customs, such as the use of the Worldwide Disclosure Facility.
  • Assisting with enquiry notices and offshore nudge letters issued by HM Revenue & Customs,
  • Assisting with general tax compliance, including the completion of Self Assessment tax returns, non-resident capital gains tax returns, ATED returns and overpayment relief claims.

Interests

Emily currently resides in London with her young family. She enjoys exploring new places both at home and abroad, crafting and drawing, and trying desperately to improve her cooking and baking skills without burning her kitchen down.

Emily is also a keen advocate for developing junior staff and regularly helps with internal work presentations and written material to assist with training needs.
