Saffery Trust organises Meatless Monday

Saffery Trust staff across its five offices have taken part in a Meatless Monday initiative to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the meat industry and promote sustainable dietary choices.

The event, which coincided with World Earth Day, saw the private client firm’s Cayman Islands, Dubai, Geneva, Guernsey and Zurich offices encourage staff to eat only vegetarian or vegan meals, in alignment with efforts to help reduce the impact of climate change.

Recipe ideas and educational information about the environmental benefits of reducing meat consumption were shared across the firm’s international workforce of over 150 staff in the lead up to the event.

Saffery Trust Transformation Manager and Green Team Champion, Joe Cardoso-Smale, surveyed staff as part of the Meatless Monday initiative.

“Reducing meat consumption is a fantastic example of how small changes can have a big impact. Reducing our intake of meat – even for just one day a week – helps to reduce water usage and greenhouse gas emissions, alleviate pressure on natural resources and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.”

“It was great to see from the survey that 48% of respondents regularly cook with a meat alternative. I hope the success of our Meatless Monday challenge will help to encourage other staff to reduce their meat consumption on a more regular basis.”

Saffery Trust staff regularly undertake green initiatives including a “10 in 10 Challenge” to replace 10 car journeys with greener transport in 10 weeks in Guernsey, a “Waste-free Wednesday” enterprise in Geneva, and a steps walking challenge in the Cayman Islands.

Saffery Trust Managing Director, Nick Batiste, said the Meatless Monday initiative was a testament to the firm’s responsible business goals.

“We are committed to having a positive environmental and social impact in all of the jurisdictions we operate, and further afield. Despite our broad global reach, our offices each work closely together both in the first-class delivery of our extensive service offering, and in supporting our collective responsible business efforts.”

“Collegiality is one of the core values of Saffery Trust and this initiative was a fantastic opportunity for all our teams to join forces to share their ideas and experiences, and to educate ourselves further on protecting our environment.”
