We understand that whatever the complexity of a particular client’s affairs, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) enquiries can be complex, stressful and difficult to deal with, for both individuals and companies.

HMRC has increased its focus in recent times on investigating the affairs of high net worth individuals and businesses with complex or unusual features and is showing particular interest in the affairs of taxpayers with international connections. Many of our clients fall within these categories and we are well versed in dealing with HMRC enquiries and investigations.

Our tax investigation services

We can assist with HMRC enquiries into all taxes, whether income tax, corporation tax or VAT.

We are happy to deal with simple enquiries to clarify factual points on a tax return or more detailed and challenging technical queries, such as the deductibility of expenses, capital allowances, research and development tax credits or questions of residence and domicile and the taxability of overseas income and gains.

We have expertise and experience in dealing with more detailed investigations conducted by HMRC under their Code of Practice 8 and 9 where tax avoidance and fraud may be suspected.

Where errors or omissions have been made in past tax returns, we are able to advise on the most appropriate approach in disclosing those matters to HMRC.

We are also experienced in dealing with HMRC enquiries with regard to employer compliance issues relating to the operation of PAYE and the disclosure of benefits in kind and expense payments.

We offer our clients a tax enquiry fee protection service to cover the costs of dealing with most types of HMRC enquiry.
